Greetings,
This past (and last) school year marked my 21st and final year teaching full time in California; my fourth year at Silver Springs High School and second year at Ghidotti Early College High School (located on the grounds of Sierra College in Grass Valley). Throughout my career I taught Earth Science, Integrated Science, Biology and Chemistry and Video Production at continuation and general high schools. I am credentialed in Geoscience (aka Earth Science), Biology, Chemistry and have a CTE Credential in Media Arts (Video Production). I also taught guitar at Berkely Adult School and was the director of Camp Jam, a summer rock n' roll music camp for kids 7-17 years old.
My Science teaching goal was to have students sense the physical world around by gaining an understanding of how the things we need and use from Earth were created; what is in the items we buy, food we eat, water we drink and the air we breathe...and how do we interact with them? The goal is to not only learn in class, but to have that spark to be a lifelong learner (because the learning really only begins in the classroom). My Media goal is to spur higher consciousness through creativity via sound and vision, which can draw from beyond the physical world.
In addition to teaching, I love to explore nature and play guitar in a band. I got married to my lovely wife Liz last year, and we have two dogs named Ollie and (his daughter) Daphne who are full of energy and keep us on our toes...never a dull moment here. I don't look at retirement as an ending of a career, but rather a new chapter to new careers and possibilities, and teaching is just but one tool in the box of life skills.
